Need of effective Air Pollution Control Measures!!

There is a need of effective Air Pollution Control Measures (APCM) adaptation by Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs).

This year, Gujarat Pollution Control Board (GPCB), Gandhinagar had conducted Seminar on Odor Control, emphasizing on the consideration of human sensation, i.e. visual and odor, for planing good and effective APCM. Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) had also proposed to Install online Continuous Stack Emission Monitoring Systems (CSEMS) in identified highly polluting industries.

However, in the evening, between 18:00 to 19:00 Hours, while crossing Dr. Ambedkar Bridge, one can observe Black Smoke Emission from stacks of the SMEs located at Danilimda, Ahmedabad. Also, one can sense foul odor near Danilimda BRTS Stop, which may be due to Pirana Sewage Treatment Plant (STP), which is one of the biggest STP in Asia.

The idea, behind writing this article, is to strictly implement Air Pollution Control Systems (APCS) i.e. Bag Filters, Cyclone Separators, Scrubbers, etc. irrespective of the Air Sampling Results, wherever required. Also, photographs of the installed APCS can be intimated to the State Pollution Control Board (SPCB), for the confirmation of implementation of required systems.

If, any Industry does not comply with the given directions, then the SPCB can take heavy fine from the Industry including charges of the New APCS. The fine will be invested by the SPCB, to provide new APCS for the installation in the Industry.

These new APCS can be designed by the SPCB itself, or it can be out sourced to the 3rd party. Both options will open the doors for the adaptation of new technologies as well as also creates new job opportunities.

This approach can lead us to reach the GPCB's goal of developing all round capabilities to protect the environment by preventing and controlling pollution by effective law enforcement and by adopting best environmental management practices to keep the State on course of sustainable development.
